Leyton Orient 2 - 2 Yeovil Town
npower League 1
ORIENT'S nervy end to the 2011/12 season goes on after they threw away a two-goal lead late on against Yeovil Town on Saturday.
Maximum points would have taken the O's to the brink of safety, but they had to settle for just one after Andy Williams and Jon Obika stuck inside the final eight minutes to wipe out the O's lead.
Wycombe's defeat at Charlton means the Londoners gained a point on their relegation rivals, but the situation could have looked all the more healthy had they hung on to the advantage given to them by Kevin Lisbie's double.
For so long it looked as though the points would be staying in east London after the hosts took advantage of a let off when Williams smashed a shot against the crossbar to move in front with 23 minutes on the clock.
Lisbie had already fired against the bar himself before he notched his and the O's first, finding himself all alone just eight yards from goal to head Dean Cox's cross into the net.
Yeovil could have levelled before the break when Obika broke the offside trap in the right channel and ran clear towards the O's goal but the Tottenham loanee failed to hit the target with just Jamie Jones to beat.
At the other end Adam Reed's low angled shot made Sam Walker get down quickly to his right to save as the score remained 1-0 to the home side at the break.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Lisbie were linking up well up front and giving the home side much more of an attacking threat than in recent weeks, but Yeovil had the first chance of the second period when Paul Huntington made a good run to the near post from a corner but didn't trouble Jones with his header.
Williams also shot over as the Glovers looked for an equaliser, but Orient were looking strong and took what seemed to be a giant stride towards the points when they scored a second 17 minutes from the end.
The goal owed much to Campbel-Ryce, who received the ball from Cox on halfway and sprinted down the left flank before clipping over a perfect cross for Lisbie to knock home his 12th goal of the season from close range.
But any thoughts of a comfortable finish to the game evaporated on 82 when the O's couldn't get a set piece clear and Williams was there to finish from in front of goal.
And that set piece Achilles heel showed itself again right at the death as the O's switched off after getting the first header clear from a left wing corner, leaving Obika in space at the far post to head Jonathan Franks' cross beyond Jones.
