Doncaster Rovers 2 - 0 Leyton Orient
npower League 1
PROMOTION-CHASING Doncaster Rovers maintained their title push on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 victory over the O's.
Doncaster scored either side of the break through Rob Jones and Chris Brown to leave Orient well-beaten.
Russell Slade made five changes to the side that put in 120 minutes of effort against Hull City in midweek, but even then it was clear that match had left its mark as Orient struggled to make an impression.
The shots on goal started early for the hosts, with David Cotterill forcing a tip over from Jamie Jones in the ninth minute
Jones and Jamie McCombe offered a gigantic presence at the back - and a notable threat from set plays - and it was from a Cotteriil corner with 19 minutes on the clock that the hosts took the lead.
Orient had no match for Jones' height and he powered in to head past Jones and put his side on the front foot.
Cotterill and Kyle Bennett were causing problems down the flanks and it was easy to see how Doncaster have established themselves as promotion contenders.
Paul Keegan almost doubled the lead on 39 when the ball was laid off to him on the edge of the box. His shot left Jones flat-footed in the goal, but the ball passed just wide of the fsr post and Orient escaped.
Orient replaced debutant Ade Azeez with David Mooney at the break, but still Doncaster were in the ascendancy and they almost made an ideal start to the second period when Brown burst clear in the left channel but placed his effort wide of the mark.
His radar was in better working order on 54 minutes though, slotting coolly under Jones after he broke the offside trap down the right and bore down on goal.
Orient finally had their first effort on goal just past the hour, Mooney shooting over after a neat touch from Charlie MacDonald gave him the opportunity.
Four minutes later Keegan fired wide from 25 yards and Doncaster were home and hosed with their two-goal advantage.
They were a whisker away from adding to it three minutes from time when first right back Paul Quinn rattled the far post with a rasping drive, then Bennett followed up with a shot that was headed off the line by Ben Chorley.
