TWO goals from Dean Cox helped the O’s record a 4-2 win in a thriller at Alfreton Town that earned them a FA Cup with Budweiser third round tie at Hull City.

“It was a great tie for the neutral but not so much for us,” said the midfielder. “They came out of the blocks really well and for the first 20 minutes, they caught us off guard. They got the goal but luckily enough I was able to get us the equaliser that settled us down a bit and the Mooney brace set us on our way.”

Cox scored the first of his two goals to start a goal rush of three in an 11-minute spell for the visitors that gave them a 3-1 half time lead.  “It was a great ball in from Cookie for the header for the third goal and it was him again I think who sent over the corner that ended up at the back stick for Moons to smash in.

“But Alfreton never gave up, they were a good outfit and they did well. We were well-drilled beforehand, we knew that they were going to kick it long and they were going for second balls. They hit the woodwork and had one kicked off the line and Ryan made a great save in the first half to keep it to 1-0.  But we had had a couple kicked off the line from Lis and Moons as well, so it’s not been all one-sided.

“I don't know whether they were playing five, six or seven up front at one point,  it felt like it but then when we broke on them, it left us with a bit of space and luckily enough, I scored another goal that enabled us to finish them off.”

Looking ahead to the trip to Hull, Dean added: “The way we are playing at the moment and scoring goals, we can be confident of giving them a good game

“The front boys are on fire at the moment. Although Lis didn’t get his goal against Alfreton, he works really hard and is the catalyst. I’ve said it once before, he really is the best player we’ve got and is playing so well at the moment.”
