The 19-year-old is yet to make a first team appearance at Loftus Road but did have a spell on loan at Portsmouth last season.
Sutherland is a product of the QPR youth system and featured for the first team throughout pre-season, whilst he has also represented the Republic of Ireland up to U21 level.
The central midfielder is eager to impress during his spell with the O’s.
“I’m delighted, it’s a massive opportunity for me, especially when the club has been in such good form and I want that to continue,” said Sutherland.
“I trained today for the first time today and it was a really good atmosphere to come in to. As soon as I walked through the door I was made to feel welcome. Everyone is really positive and it makes me feel raring to go.
“I want to play as much as I can and learn and be the best I possibly can. If I can come here and do well then I’d love to stay here until the end of the season.
“QPR have had a similar start and I see Orient as a similar club in a way, it’s a compact stadium which is what I’m used to having grown up watching QPR and I can’t wait to get started.”
Sutherland will wear the number 24 shirt whilst at the club.
