Coastal Crushers Do The Double

Posted on: Tue 22 Jun 2010

A triumphant Coastal Crushers claimed the CLM Constructors Football Challenge Cup with a comprehensive victory over their closest league rivals at Brisbane Road, writes Dominique Hume

The Crushers beat Aquatics (SCORE) in the final after a tense semi final in which they were nearly knocked out on penalties.

The CLM Constructors Football Challenge Cup is in its second year and this year consisted of 16 teams made up of people working on the Olympic site in Stratford. 15 of those came from CLM, while the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) also entered a team. The teams participating in the Cup also play in a league that runs throughout the football season.

The tournament started off in group stages before the top two teams progressed to the cup competition and the bottom two teams progressed into the plate competition, meaning that everyone got a full evening of football.

The evening was also attended by Jason Millett, the director of CLM Venues who was on hand to present the plate, cup and league trophies.

Mr Millett went on to say: "This tournament is all about getting different companies working together not just at work, but in a social sense as well. The Olympics are a once in a lifetime opportunity for London."

Andy Levy, from Bayer Neverlusen, said: "We are the highest ranking team from CLM here today and this is the second time that we have played in this tournament. It's really well organised and we always have a great time."

The League forms one part of a fantastic partnership between CLM and Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme with CLM providing funding and support enabling LOCSP to deliver and develop our community sports and education engagement work. This encompasses over 2000 disadvantaged young people a week across six east London Boroughs including the Olympic host boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. Real legacy in action!

Neil Taylor, Chief Executive of LOCSP, said: "As the Community Charitable arm of Leyton Orient FC we are very proud to have such a connection with the Olympics and the partnership which has really brought to life the true impact that it will have on our local communities.

"I would like to thank CLM for their continued support and contribution to our work. I would personally like to thank Jason Millett, CLM Venues Director for coming down and presenting the trophy to the winning team."
