MILLWALL and Swindon Town will battle it out at Wembley for the final League One promotion slot a week on Saturday.
The pair won through their tense play-off semi finals this week and will now face off in the winner-takes-all shootout in north west London.
For Swindon the drama could hardly have been more intense as they saw off Charlton in a second leg that had it all.
Leading 2-1 from the first leg thanks to goals from Charlie Austin and Danny Ward, Swindon looked to be heading for defeat when Charlton struck twice in the first half at The Valley to overturn the deficit.
Swindon looked doomed when skipper Gordon Greer saw red for a crude challenge on Deon Burton midway through the second period, but Danny Wilson's men regrouped and drew level in the tie when Ward capitalised on some uncertain defending to prod home.
Charlton defender Miguel Llera was then dismissed in the final minute of normal time for hauling down Austin as he raced clear and it was a 10-against-10 contest for extra time.
Frazer Richardson hit the post for Charlton, while Ward went close for Swindon, but penalties were needed to decide the victors.
And Charlton's Nicky Bailey proved to be the fall guy, blazing his penalty wide of the mark as Swindon held their nerve to triumph 5-4.
In the other semi-final at The Den, Millwall built on their first leg 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town to earn their place in the final.
Steve Morison and Paul Robinson scored either side of the break to secure a 2-0 aggregate success for the Lions and propel them into the League One play-off final for the second year in a row.
They will now fight to join Norwich City and Leeds United in gaining promotion from League One.
Meanwhile, in the race to join League One from the division below, Dagenham & Redbridge hold a huge semi-final first leg advantage over Morecambe, having defeated the Shrimps 6-0 at Victoria Road, while Rotherham United won 1-0 at Aldershot Town in their first game.
