Ling - It's A Chance To Get Saturday's Result Out Of Our System

Posted on: Tue 09 Oct 2007

MARTIN LING is happy that Orient have the chance to get over Saturday's thrashing at the hands of Swansea so quickly.

The O's face Dagenham & Redbridge in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Brisbane Road this evening and Ling will tinker with his side - although competition rules mean that wholesale changes are impossible.

"We need to get Saturday's result out of our system quickly," he said. "You don't want to stew on that kind of defeat for too long, so it's good that another game has come around so quickly.

"Your head immediately focuses on the Dagenham game and there will be some players who'll get the chance to make a claim for a shirt at Elland Road on Saturday.

"I've got 18 players fully fit - only Fortune, Sylvester and Thelwell, who is feeling his hamstring a little bit, are out.

"But it's not a case of playing the kids. We've only got a small squad anyway, and everyone in there has a big part to play this season. Those who came in against Notts County did really well and they'll get the chance to impress again tonight."

Orient have faced Dagenham on numerous occasions in cup competitions in recent years and the derby duels have always been keenly contested.

Ling is expecting nothing different tonight,

He continued: "There will be a few more there because we are playing Dagenham. It's always dangerous when people say it's a game we should win - you only have to look at their win over Southend in the last round to prove that - and we have to treat them with respect.

"They are a combative side, who play the longer ball and you have to live with that side of the game before you can impose your own style on them.

"We had them watched on Saturday and Darlington did that to them - and that's what we're looking to do as well."
