Walsall 0 - 2 Leyton Orient
Coca-Cola League One
PAUL TERRY scored his first goal in Orient colours as the Londoners won 2-0 at rain-sodden Walsall on Saturday.
Terry waited until his 55th appearance for the club to break his scoring duck and he could not have chosen a better time to strike.
His 73rd minute goal was always likely to prove decisive in a tight contest at the Banks's Stadium and Walsall could find no way back after he broke the deadlock.
Adam Boyd set the seal on a fine awayday performance when his 80th minute penalty made sure of the points.
It was an efficient display from the visitors, who registered their third consecutive League clean sheet - making full use of that with those two late goals.
Glenn Morris made the first save of the afternoon with four minutes on the clock. Alton Thelwell was penalised for a foul on Jabo Ibehre in the left hand channel, and despite the angle being against him, Walsall's Marco Reich went direct for goal but shot straight at Morris.
Orient went on the attack six minutes later after Troy Deeney lost possession in midfield. Jason Demetriou carried the ball forward for Boyd to dance between a couple of challenges and chip wide of the mark.
Adam Chambers fired over the bar from range on 28 minutes and it had been an even opening with both sides being thwarted in their efforts to break through the opposition's defences.
The first real chance created in open play fell to Ryan Jarvis a minute later, who cut inside Stephen Roberts after being fed a decent through pass by Chambers before having his low drive stopped by keeper Clayton Ince.
But that was it as far as goalscoring opportunities in the first half were concerned, with a 0-0 interval scoreline the inevitable result.
JJ Melligan's shot was deflected over the top five minutes after the interval, but it wasn't until the 69th minute that the next chance materialised, Walsall's Anthony Gerrard heading Chris Palmer's corner wide.
Ishmel Demontagnac then greedily went for goal after beating Aiden Palmer down Orient's left, firing over from an impossible angle.
A goal was looking increasing unlikely, so perhaps it was fitting that when it did arrive 17 minutes from time it came from an unlikely source.
Terry had waited over a year to find the net for the O's, but he was in the right place at the right time to finish from close range after Boyd made his was past a couple of defenders to set up the chance.
Seven minutes later Orient were given the chance to make sure of the points when Paul Boertien upended JJ Melligan in the box.
Boyd made no mistake from 12 yards, drilling down the middle of the goal to bag his fourth of the season.
Orient were calling all the shots now and Ince had to make a regulation save from Demetriou six minutes from time.
Ibehre headed Reich's cross wide of the near post as the clock ticked down, but Orient continued to defend solidly as they saw out the remaining minutes to earn an excellent away win.
