Millwall 2 - 1 Leyton Orient
Coca-Cola League One
FORMER Orient striker Gary Alexander came back to haunt his old employers as he scored twice in the final 20 minutes to send the O's to defeat in their final away game of the season.
Simon Church's goal two minutes after the break looked set to give Orient victory at Millwall for the third consecutive year, but the Lions had other ideas and Alexander's double turned the game on its head.
Scott McGleish missed a first half penalty, but Millwall bossed the game for large periods and were worthy of their three point haul.
Orient wasted a golden chance to establish a ninth minute lead, McGleish seeing his weak penalty saved by David Forde after Charlie Daniels was tripped in the box by Andrew Frampton.
Millwall's first threat came from the boot of defender Zak Whitbread, who almost embarrassed O's stopper Jamie Jones with his quickly-taken 45-yard free kick which drifted wide as Jones backpedalled.
Jones displayed excellent reactions with 18 minutes on the clock to turn Jason Price's fiercely-struck effort away after the home striker turned inside the box.
The Lions were starting to apply the pressure and James Henry shot wastefully straight at Jones with 21 minutes on the clock after running onto Alexander's flick header and finding himself through on goal.
Orient's forays into Millwall territory were more limited in number, but they were doing a decent job in restricting the home side's goalscoring chances and they reached the break level at 0-0.
Alexander had a header saved 50 seconds after the restart, but Orient broke immediately and moved into the lead when Church rolled the ball into the bottom right corner after running clear of the Lions' defence.
Millwall looked to hit back straight away, with former Orient striker Alexander drilling over from outside the box.
Perhaps inevitably, it was Alexander who struck when Millwall found their leveller 20 minutes from time. Jordan Spence found himself isolated against the Lions striker, whose headed touch took him inside the visitors' defender before he thumped beyond Jones.
Jones saved well from Neil Harris 14 minutes from time, but Orient couldn't hold out and it was that man Alexander who consigned them to defeat three minutes from the end.
A cross from the left was hung up to the far post where Alexander was lurking to head home.
