Leyton Orient 0 - 1 Colchester United
Coca-Cola League One
ORIENT'S run of four games unbeaten at home came to a frustrating end when Kayode Odejayi's second half goal gave Colchester United the points at Brisbane Road on Saturday.
Odejayi nodded home following an Anthony Wordsworth corner in the 54th minute to settle a lively A12 derby.
Orient keeper Jamie Jones left the field very early on with a head injury as Colchester started the brighter, but the hosts came back into the contest before the break and reached the interval level.
But Odejayi's header tipped the balance in the U's favour and Orient could not respond.
There was a first minute scare for the home side when John-Joe O'Toole knocked the ball on to Odejayi inside the area. Jones had to dive bravely at the U's striker's feet, with Luke Summerfield clearing up on the line.
That proved to be the last of the action for Jones, who was carried off on a stretcher following five minutes of treatment.
Immediately after the restart Odejayi flicked a header wide as Colchester started on the front foot.
The visitors' robust approach was proving difficult to handle early on and O'Toole fired a volley over the top with 23 minutes on the clock.
Orient then settled and forced the first save from Ben Williams on 28 when Scott McGleish won a header deep in U's territory, Ryan Jarvis moved the ball on to Andros Townsend and Williams got down low to his left to save the on loan winger's shot.
Colchester fashioned a couple of chances from set plays before half time, with Magnus Okuonghae heading Wordsworth's 41st minute corner wide, then Odejayi nodding straight at Morris from another Wordsworth flag kick.
The U's came out of the traps quickest after the break and Morris had to make an excellent save down to his left to prevent O'Toole's 15-yard volley from finding the net just 20 seconds after the restart.
Nine minutes later there was to be no such reprieve for the hosts when O'Toole flicked on from a Wordsworth corner and Odejayi was lurking at the back post to crash a header home.
Orient struggled to create chances as Colchester wound the clock down expertly, although Townsend did force Williams to touch his well-struck 85th minute drive over.
At the other end Steven Gillespie came close to sealing it on the break, but one goal proved enough for Aidy Boothroyd's high-flyers.
