Leyton Orient 0 - 2 Huddersfield Town
Coca-Cola League One

ORIENT went down to their first home defeat of 2010 on Saturday as Huddersfield Town's strikers proved too hot to handle.

Town frontmen Jordan Rhodes and Theo Robinson both got on the scoresheet to give the impressive visitors the points.

Rhodes and Robinson, with the ammunition supplied by wingmen Gary Roberts and Anthony Pilkington, provided a formidable attacking threat, and Orient found it difficult to cope.

Rhodes opened the scoring on 26 minutes whilst Robinson secured the points midway through the second period on an afternoon when Orient were left chasing shadows.

Peter Clarke and Danny Drinkwater both missed the target for the visitors in a lively opening ten minutes, while Glenn Morris had to get down smartly to save Roberts' shot after the ball fell for him 15 yards from goal.

A quickly taken free kick by the visitors almost caught Orient out in the 14th minute. Robinson beat Morris to the ball and cut back for Roberts on the edge of the area, but as the O's keeper made his way back to goal the Huddersfield man drove wide of the near post.

Four minutes later Orient were left waiting for an offside flag that never came against Robinson in the right channel. He crossed low, but strike partner Rhodes couldn't convert, slicing wide.

Huddersfield were pressing for the opener and it arrived on 26 when Rhodes got in front of Ben Chorley to divert Roberts' teasing cross beyond Morris in the O's goal.

Jason Demetriou fired a shot wide of Alex Smithies' near post as the game reached the half hour mark, but Huddersfield's lead was deserved.

Roberts - as he had done when the sides met at the Galpharm Stadium - was providing a real threat down the left and he breezed past Andrew Cave-Brown before delivering a low cross that Robinson knocked wide in the 34th minute.

Ten minutes after the interval Robinson looked as though he was going to give Huddersfield a two-goal lead when he met Roberts' free kick with a powerful downward header. Morris came to the O's rescue, diving to his right to produce a magnificent save.

Two minutes later Adam Chambers sliced just wide of his own goal after Rhodes - looking offside - got in down the right to cross.

Huddersfield looked to have a vice-like grip on the game and that tightened yet further when they finally got the second they merited 22 minutes from the end.

Pilkington was this time the architect, beating Charlie Daniels before sending over an inch perfect cross to the near post for Robinson to ram home.

Orient responded by bringing Ryan Jarvis and Harry Baker off the bench, and Jarvis thought he should have had a penalty within seconds of his introduction when he went down under Peter Clarke's challenge in the box.

At the other end Roberts' shot was deflected inches past the post as the Terriers looked for more.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time Sean Thornton's free kick found its way through a ruck of players and drew a save from Alex Smithies, but that was as close as the O's came as Huddersfield enjoyed a comfortable victory.
