Milton Keynes Dons 1 - 0 Leyton Orient
Coca-Cola League One
MARK CARRINGTON'S first half header condemned Orient to defeat for the second time in 2010 at Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday.
The Dons midfielder evaded the attentions of the O's backline to beat Jamie Jones to Aaron Wilbraham's 31st minute cross and head the only goal of a low key game.
Milton Keynes were always in control as Orient struggled to attack with any cohesion - and it will be an afternoon they will want to forget about quickly.
The first incident of note was an eighth minute booking for Dons striker Aaron Wilbraham for diving on the edge of the O's box.
It was a very quiet opening to the game with the defences on top, but Milton Keynes enjoyed the better of the early possession and Dean Lewington nodded over from a Peter Leven corner on 22 minutes.
Nine minutes later the home side moved into the lead when Carrington nipped in front of Jamie Jones to beat the O's stopper to Wilbraham's right wing cross and nod into the net.
The O's were offering very little in the way of attacking threat and it should have got worse for them at the start of the second period when the hosts won a disputed free kick.
Orient, thinking the call would go their way, switched off and Lewington took advantage to play Luke Chadwick through, but Jones saved his side by standing up to the Dons man and blocking low to his right.
With 58 minutes on the clock Mark Randall found space 30 yards from goal to send in a shot, but he couldn't get hold of his effort and it drifted harmlessly wide of the target.
The home side were still looking comfortable in their lead, so O's boss Geraint Williams made a double change on 63, introducing Jonathan Téhoué and James Scowcroft from the bench.
18 minutes from the end Lewington nodded a Leven free kick over the top, while seven minutes later Orient finally forced home stopper Willy Gueret into a save when he had to claw away James Scowcroft's well-struck volley.
But that was as close as the O's came to a leveller on a disappointing afternoon for the Londoners.
