Dagenham & Redbridge 2 - 0 Leyton Orient
npower League 1

ORIENT slumped to defeat in the derby at Dagenham & Redbridge after conceding a goal at the start of both halves.

Dagenham were quick out of the blocks both at the start and after half time with Frenchman Romain Vincelot scoring both the goals.

Both were headers, as the midfielder got on the end of two Danny Green deliveries to take the points.

Orient had their chances, with Alex Revell twice going close from corners and their penalty appeals fell on deaf ears when Scott Doe appeared to handle inside the area, but Dagenham also threatened, with Josh Scott striking the post.

In the end Orient were left to rue their failure to come to terms with their hosts at the start of the game as their two-match winning run came to an end.

The O's got off to a distastrous start, falling behind within eight minutes when Vincelot swooped in unmarked to meet Green's right wing cross with an unstoppable downward header.

Russell Slade's men struggled to get to grips with the Daggers' fast and direct approach and Gavin Tomlin then went close with a shot at the near post that flew behind

However, the visitors started to come back into the contest as the interval neared and Stephen Dawson was very nearly in when Revell knocked the ball into his path on 34, but just as he looked set to pull the trigger, Scott Doe flew in with a tremendous saving tackle.

Scott McGleish then sent a fierce left footed effort just past the near post after being picked out by Matthew Spring's fine diagonal ball.

Orient's best chance before the break fell to Revell on 42, but his header from Spring's corner.flew straight at Tony Roberts in the Daggers goal.

Dagenham responded with a Vincelot shot that whistled over the bar from 20 yards, and he was the man that delivered a hammer blow to the away side's chances five minutes after the interval.

Green's corner was met by Mark Arber at the far post, and he headed back across goal for Vincelot to nod home from close range.

That gave the O's a real mountain to climb, although they almost grabbed a foothold six minutes later when Revell's header at the near post flashed over following a Dean Cox corner.

Then, just past the hour, Orient's anger was directed at referee Fred Graham after he failed to award a penalty when Doe charged down Adam Chambers' powerful shot and clearly blocked it with his arms.

That moment probably killed off any hopes of an O's comeback and Dagenham nearly made it three 18 minutes from the end when Josh Scott's thunderous effort from range thudded against the crossbar.

Roberts clawed away another Revell effort as time ticked away, but there was to be no way back on a frustrating afternoon for the O's
