Swindon Town 1 - 2 Leyton Orient
Carling Cup Round One
ORIENT stormed back to dump Swindon Town out of the Carling Cup at the County Ground on Tuesday night.
The Londoners trailed at the break to Jon-Paul McGovern's 35th minute goal and they had few complaints at the interval scoreline after barely making an impression.
Indeed, they could have been further behind had it not been for an excellent save from Jamie Jones to deny Charlie Austin on the stroke of half time.
The O's made the most of their let-off, coming back strongly after the interval and levelling through Ryan Jarvis on 67.
Just four minutes later Alex Revell netted his second goal in two games as an O's player to complete the fightback and send Orient through to the second round for the second year in succession.
Swindon were a whisker away from taking a second minute lead when left back Michael Rose found himself in space 25 yards from goal. He took on the shot, which deflected off Terrell Forbes and flew just over the crossbar.
Orient were giving the ball away with far too much regularity in the opening stages, and only last ditch interventions from Ben Chorley and Forbes prevented a couple of dangerous low crosses from Paul Caddis leading to goals.
The O's were offering little going forward, although they were starting to look a little more comfortable themselves. That was until Swindon moved in front with 35 minutes on the clock.
David Ball worked his way into space in the left hand side of the penalty area and squared the ball for right winger McGovern to calmly steer into the opposite bottom corner.
Orient were rattled and they were fortunate not to fall further behind before the interval when Ball again crossed low from the left, and with the defence having gone missing, Jones needed to stick out a foot to stop Charlie Austin's close range effort from finding the net.
The second half began in much the same vein as Ball swivelled and shot wide of the near post after receiving the ball from strike partner Austin.
Orient finally showed signs of life around the hour mark as Revell cut inside from the left flank and unleashed a fierce drive that goalkeeper Phil Smith did well to touch behind.
Jarvis then went close from a couple of corners, and when his third opportunity came along he made sure he took it.
The O's striker, making his first start of the season, timed his run brilliantly to beat the offside trap and run onto Matthew Spring's through ball. The finish was equally good, as he showed admirable composure to smash past Smith and into the roof of the net.
The goal came during a great spell from the visitors, and it didn't end there as they moved in front just four minutes later.
Former Swindon striker Revell was the man to strike, drilling a low 20-yard free kick into the bottom left corner after Stephen Dawson was fouled on the edge of the box.
It was a remarkable turnaround, and another O's player to make a strong comeback from Saturday's disappointment was Jones, who diverted Austin's 79th minute shot behind after he took down Rose's cross at the far post.
But there was no way back for the Robins as Orient gained full reward for their second half comeback.
