ORIENT have signed Yeovil Town striker Wayne Gray for an undisclosed five-figure fee.

Gray, 26, spent three months on loan at Brisbane Road during the 2001/02 season and O's boss Martin Ling - who was assistant manager at that time - has now swooped to sign his first forward of the summer on a two-year contract.

Londoner Gray was the Glovers' top scorer as the Somerset club made the League One play-off final last term, and he also helped Southend United to promotion in both the previous two seasons.

He has scored a total of 34 goals over the past three campaigns and Ling is delighted to bring him to Brisbane Road.

He said: "I'm very pleased to have signed Wayne Gray.

"He is a player I have been trying to bring to this football club all summer and he will add pace and power to our front line.

"He's experienced this club before whilst on loan and he was looking to come back to London so this move is ideal both for him and for us.

"Wayne's had an exceptional record over the last three years, scoring at a one-in-three ratio and winning two promotions, as well as helping Yeovil to the play-off final last year.

"So I'm happy to get this deal done - that takes the number of strikers here up to four and there will be one more coming in as well."

Gray began his career at Wimbledon, where he made a total of 75 league appearances in the top two divisions.

The 5'10'' striker enjoyed loan spells at Swindon, Port Vale and Brighton, as well as the O's, but it wasn't until a summer 2004 move to Southend that his career really took off.

He bagged 22 goals in 98 appearances for the Shrimpers - of which 33 came as a sub - before moving to Yeovil last summer.

A further 12 strikes followed, despite Gray spending much of his time at Huish Park on the right wing, and he will now have the opportunity to add to the six O's goals already to his name.
