Youthful O's Take The Points
Leyton Orient 2 - 1 Watford
Pontin's Holidays Combination Central Division
JACK PAGE'S last minute goal gave Orient's reserve team a notable 2-1 victory over a Watford side loaded with top-level experience on Tuesday afternoon.
The visitors' side included six players with Premier League appearances under their belts, but Orient's youngsters competed throughout and were rewarded at the death.
Raphael Sylvester had earlier cancelled out Lionel Ainsworth's opener, and goalkeeper Michael Doyle also made himself a hero by saving Steve Kabba's stoppage time spot kick.
Assistant manager Dean Smith said: "It was an excellent performance from the lads and it's a great result.
"We ended the match with a full youth team out there on the pitch, so it's very pleasing that we beat a very experienced Watford side."
The signs looked ominous early on when Brandon Martin slipped trying to reach Solomon Shields' pass, leaving Ainsworth with a free run on goal. The young winger made no mistake in taking the ball around Doyle and passed into an empty net.
Efe Echanomi missed an excellent chance to level on 25 minutes, but Watford were looking dangerous, with Nathan Ellington shooting wide and Kabba nodding an Ainsworth cross over the top.
But on the stroke of half time Orient stunned their visitors when Scott Grange's corner was headed on by Frankie Webb, leaving Sylvester with the simple task of turning home from close range.
Watford enjoyed the vast majority of the play in the second period and came desperately close to retaking the lead when left back Jordan Parkes smashed a long range effort against the underside of the bar on 54.
The same player almost squeezed a shot under Doyle as Watford kept up the pressure, but it was Orient who were to find the decisive second.
Estonian international keeper Mart Poom was the man to blame, making a hash of dealing with Tom Kemp's free kick and only clearing the ball as far as Page with his sliced kick.
The O's midfielder returned the ball immediately, and it just had enough legs to beat him and roll over the line.
Watford upped the ante and were awarded a penalty when Kemp was judged to have dragged down Ellington in the area.
Kabba stepped up looking to level the scores, but Doyle dived low to his right to turn the ball behind and ensure Orient would claim a notable scalp.
