CHARLIE DANIELS was particularly pleased with Orient's 2-1 win over Luton. The O's left-back returned to the starting line-up after three weeks on the bench, set up the opening goal and saw his mate Andy Barcham score the second. Charlie spoke to leytonorient.com after the game.
That was a cracking game to watch, what was it like to play in?
"It was good. The pitch wasn't the best to be fair, over on the left-hand side it was a bit muddy, but it was enjoyable, overall. I think we deserved to win it, we had a lot of chances, Efe and Boydy both had runs on the goalkeeper, and it was nice to see Barch get a goal. We're all really pleased for him."
Were you surprised how well Luton played, given the problems they've had?
"They're in a bit of crisis aren't they, but they've still got good players and they're a good team. I think playing against Liverpool gave them confidence, they held them to 0-0 for most of the first half there, and they've got a new manager now so they'll have wanted to impress him. But they came out and played too, which helped us. Normally it's the long-ball game and a bit of a fight in this division, so it's nice to see a team that can play."
Can you talk us through that first goal?
"The goalkeeper came rushing out and had the ball in his hands, but he was coming out of the box so he had to let go of it, I cut it across and luckily Boydy was there. I thought about having a shot but if there's someone in a better position you've got to give it to him. It's a team game."
Stuart Nelson had a flap for their goal but did he make up for it with those saves later on?
"It's a bit harsh to call it a flap as it's just one of those things. He played really well today and he's been playing well since he got back in. He's a good goalkeeper. It's just a shame he didn't get the clean sheet really as it was near enough a perfect day."
It was your first start for a while - how did you think you played?
"It was alright, obviously you have to work hard and train hard when you aren't in the team, get yourself alright, and then when you get your chance you've got to take it. Aiden's been playing well so you've got to make sure you perform when you get back in."
"It's one of those things, if you have a poor game you're going to get dropped. That's the way the gaffer likes to do it and that's the way I want it too. It means you'll always get another chance."
A Friday night game at Northampton coming up then - that can't hold too many worries for you?
"No, we'll go there with a lot of confidence, we're looking forward to it, and we're looking forward to every game now. We're surprising people, but we're not surprised. The gaffer thinks we should be up there and the players do too."
