A YOUNG Orient reserve side were beaten 4-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night.

Efe Echanomi bagged Orient's goal on a difficult evening in Worthing, which saw the O's compete against a far more experienced Brighton outfit.

However, the scoreline was harsh on the visitors and assistant manager Dean Smith was pleased with the performance.

He said: "The result may have gone against us, but I thought we did really well.

"Brighton had a number of professionals out there, but we competed and gave a good account of ourselves."

The home side opened the scoring with just ten minutes on the clock when Jake Robinson ran through to slot past under-16 goalkeeper Jack Giddins.

Joe Gatting doubled Brighton's lead with an emphatic finish after running on to Paul Reid's through ball.

A superb Jonny Dixon solo effort on 65 made it 3-0 to the Sussex side, but a neat finish from Echanomi two minutes later got Orient back in the contest.

Robinson restored Brighton's three goal cushion near the end when he pounced on a loose ball from a corner.
