FORMER Orient goalkeeper Paul Jones kept a clean sheet as Exeter City clinched their place back in the Football League at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

The 21-year-old stopper, a product of Orient's youth system, stood firm as the Grecians triumphed over Cambridge United 1-0 in a tense Blue Square Premier play-off final.

It marked a return to League football after a five-year absence for the Devon club, who also number ex-Orient wingman Wayne Carlisle in their ranks.

Cambridge, too, had a number of former O's men on show, although defender Mark Peters, midfielder Danny Brown and striker Leo Fortune-West, who enjoyed a brief loan spell at Brisbane Road 11 years ago, were unable to prevent Exeter's success.

The Football League's play-off finals take place this coming weekend and one-time O's loanees Michael Turner and Richard Garcia are likely to start in Hull City's bid to reach the Barclays Premier League against Bristol City.

In League Two, Lee Thorpe's Rochdale will be aiming to join Orient in League One, but Stockport County stand in their way.  Thorpe, however, will miss the game with a broken arm.
