STEPHEN PURCHES is sure Orient can put a disappointing second half of the season behind them by making a push for promotion next year.

The O's looked well set for a play-off challenge for much of the 2007/08 campaign, but a poor run of form post-Christmas scuppered their chances.

But defender Purches, who joined the club last summer from AFC Bournemouth, says Orient will learn from their experiences and return as a better side for next season.

"We would have taken mid-table at the start of the season, but when we had such a good start, it got us thinking this could be our year," he said.

"But, for whatever reason it wasn't to be this year, and it was disappointing that we didn't kick on after being top in December.

"We'll learn from the mistakes we made this season and we'll come back stronger next year.

"We all want to progress and play at the highest standard we can, so there's always that drive to do well and we'll certainly be looking to build on the platform we've built."

Purches was also pleased with how his own form improved as the season wore on and he is determined to have a successful 2008/09.

He continued: "I missed about 10 games near the start of the season with injury, which was disappointing, but otherwise I've enjoyed every minute of this season.

"My wife moved up here around Christmas and that helped me settle down, and personally I felt I got better as the season went on.

"I'm looking forward now to having a little rest and getting ready for next year."
