SUPPORTERS' Club Deputy Chairman and organiser of the forthcoming Somme trip this July, Steve Jenkins, has been invited by BBC London 94.9FM to go live on air this Saturday afternoon to talk with Tom Watt about the historic event that 182 people are going to witness.
At long last it seems that the O's historic involvement in the Great War, when 41 Clapton Orient players and staff enlisted into the 17th Battalion Middlesex Regiment (the 1st Footballers' Battalion), is getting the recognition it so richly deserves.
An inaugral trip was undertaken in 2006 as a result of Steve's book They Took The Lead bringing attention to both Orient supporters and the wider public the huge sacrifice made by the club during a time of great danger to the country. So succesful was the trip that people were asking when would they be able to go again as they were getting off the coaches once back at Leyton!
For all those travelling over to northern France on the weekend of July 12/13 Steve will be in touch nearer to the time to confirm all the arrangements, but it is envisaged the coaches will depart Leyton Orient for the Somme between 6.15-6.30am on July 12.
For anyone who has not booked to travel but would like to meet up with the party over in France - contact Steve via email.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
