Four-Star O's Kick Off In Style
KFCO Wilrijk 1 - 4 Leyton Orient
Pre-Season Friendly
ORIENT kicked off their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 4-1 victory over KFCO Wilrijk in Antwerp on Wednesday evening.
Wilrijk held the O's to 0-0 in the opening period, but the Londoners came to life after half-time with Ryan Jarvis, Adam Boyd, Bradley Gray and Jason Demetriou all finding the back of the net.
Demetriou also missed a penalty, while Wilrijk's Werner Ooms was sent off late on as Orient ended their three-day trip to Belgium in style.
O's boss Martin Ling gave all 16 fit professionals an hour of pitch time, switching between 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formations in each period.
It was the O's who did all the early running, although the Wilrijk defence defended stubbornly, restricting Orient's goalscoring opportunities before the break.
Boyd drew a stop from home keeper Wouter Goris with a 17th minute header, while the same player nodded a Jason Demetriou cross over three minutes later.
Young midfielder Solomon Shields took the ball past three men before being denied by Goris on 31, but Orient could not find a way through in the first half.
Wilrijk started to threaten as the half wore on and Jamie Jones had to save well from Raf Lenaerts and Jens van Loon.
Orient had more joy in front of goal after the break though, and they only had to wait two minutes.to open the scoring with Ryan Jarvis converting Loick Pires cross.
1-0 quickly became 2-0 after a handball in the box presented Boyd with the chance to score from the spot in the 56th minute.
Wilrijk pulled one back when Glenn Pals found space in the right hand side of the penalty area to slip a shot home.
Glenn Morris prevented Pals from levelling when the Wilrijk forward pounced on a slip from Dean Smith - who played the final half-hour - to attempt a lob.
But Orient soon killed the game off when Bradley Gray finished superbly with a measured far post effort on 63.
A handball by home defender Ooms gave Demetriou the chance to extend Orient's lead from the penalty spot soon after, but the visitors' midfielder put his effort wide of the post.
Ooms' night ended prematurely when he was red carded for aiming a kick at Demetriou with 68 minutes on the clock and Orient made full use of their extra man,
Demetriou atoned for his spot kick miss by forcing Pires' 78th minute cross home, while Jarvis, Gray and Adam Chambers all came close in the final minutes.
