Reserves Off The Mark
Northampton Town 0 - 1 Leyton Orient
The Football Combination Eastern Division
THE RESERVES were handed their first victory of the season by an own goal from Northampton Town's Jon Marzetti at the Sixfields Stadium on Tuesday.
Dean Smith's side gave a good performance in difficult conditions and Marzetti's unfortunate contribution was their reward.
Smith said: "It was a good performance, especially when you consider the difficult and slippery conditions.
"There was a good tempo to our play and the attitude shown was spot on."
Sean Thornton forced a save from home goalkeeper Frank Fielding with a 25-yard free kick in the 14th minute, while Fielding was called upon again to bravely deny Loick Pires shortly after.
At the other end, Jamie Jones produced a superb save to prevent Joe Benjamin from giving the Cobblers a 32nd minute lead.
Jones also saved from Ian Henderson after the break, but the decisive moment arrived five minutes from time when Bradley Gray's (pictured) cross was turned into his own net by Marzetti.
Trialist Jose Pedro Rodrigues Alves played the entire 90 minutes, while Ben Rayner was substituted with 58 minutes on the clock.
Orient: Jamie Jones; Andrew Cave-Brown, Luke Ashworth, Jose Pedro Rodrigues Alves, Brandon Martin; Ben Rayner (Adam Bolle 58), Harry Beautyman, Sean Thornton, Loick Pires; Bradley Gray, Adam Marsh (Jake Argent 82)
