JAMIE JONES blasted referee James Linington after his decision to rule out the young stopper's penalty save from Adam Virgo in the shoot out at Brighton.

Jones thought his intervention had put the O's within one penalty of the area quarter finals, but the official ruled he had stepped off his line and Virgo converted at the second attempt.

The Seagulls went on to claim victory and Jones felt the laws had been applied inconsistently.

"The decision was a joke," he fumed. "If you look at the video, their keeper's movement is exactly the same for the one that Ashy [Luke Ashworth] misses as it was for my save.

"If he makes the decison that I've come off the line, he has to be consistent and do the same for when Ashy missed his.

"It's frustrating, but now we have to pick our heads up and get on with it.

"We came back well from going 2-0 down so early. The lads have got a great spirit and it showed out there.

"If there had been extra time, I think we would have gone on to win, but you don't get that in this competition and we were unfortunate that we didn't go through on penalties."

19-year-old keeper Jones, a summer signing from Everton, has had to rely on the Johnstone's Paint Trohpy for his first team experience so far, but having had a taste of senior football, he is hungry for more in the near future.

He continued: "I'm getting first team experience in these games and that's been good because I'm not getting it in the League at the moment.

"Getting knocked out is devastating, but playing in this competition has made me hungry for more first team involvement.

"I'll keep pushing Glenn and hopefully the gaffer will pick me."
