Daniels Becomes First January Signing
CHARLIE DANIELS has agreed to sign for the O's on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.
Daniels, a 22-year-old left-sided player, spent the whole of the 2007/08 season on loan at Brisbane Road and will now return on an 18-month contract.
Harlow-born Daniels spent six years at White Hart Lane, but didn't make a first team appearance for Harry Redknapp's men and gained Football League experience with loan spells at Chesterfield, Orient and Gillingham.
He has impressed for Spurs' reserve side this year, scoring three goals in four appearances, and he also got on the scoresheet during his month at Gillingham earlier this season.
The O's were quoted a six-figure fee when they made enquiries over Daniels' availability last summer and O's boss Martin Ling moved quickly to secure his signature once he became available on a free.
Ling said: "Charlie was a target of ours in the summer, but we felt Spurs' valuation of him at that time was unrealistic so we moved on.
"But once he became available again on a free transfer over the Christmas period, we moved to sign him and I'm delighted to welcome him back to the club.
"His versatility down the left hand side will be very important to us and he will be a good addition to the squad in our fight for the rest of the season.
"The transfer window is now open and this is the first step in our shuffling of the squad."
Daniels will wear the number 25 shirt and will be available for Saturday's League One trip to Leicester City.
