Daniels - It's Great To Be Back
CHARLIE DANIELS is looking to hit the ground running with the O's after putting pen-to-paper on an 18-month contract on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old joins on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, and having spent the whole of last season on loan at Brisbane Road, he is glad to return.
"It's a nice feeling to be back," he said. "I had a great time here last season, and although we tailed off towards the end of the season, I thought we did well.
"I'm delighted to have signed here again and I want to help push this club forward.
"It's near enough the same squad as we had last year, with only a few new faces, so I'm sure that will help me to settle in again."
Daniels was at White Hart Lane for six years, but his only senior experience has come in loan spells at Chesterfield, the O's and Gillingham, so he is relishing the prospect of regular first team football.
"The main reason I've joined is the opportunity to get first team football. I wasn't getting that at Tottenham and I'm pleased to join Leyton Orient," he added.
"We showed that we are a good side last season and we've got a confident bunch of lads.
"I'm sure we've got the ability here to get out of the relegation zone and clim up the table."
Daniels has scored four goals in nine appearances this season for Gillingham and the Spurs reserve side from an attacking role down the left flank.
The main part of his loan spell at Brisbane Road was spent at left back and he says he is happy to fulfil either role.
"I enjoy playing in a more attacking role," he added. "I've scored a few goals from that kind of position this season so hopefully that can continue.
"But it doesn't matter to me whether I'm playing a defensive or attacking role - I'll just give my all wherever I'm asked to play."
