ADAM BOYD and Luke Ashworth were on target as Orient's reserves beat Northampton Town 2-1 at Brisbane Road on Wednesday.
Boyd struck early on and although Alex Dyer equalised for the Cobblers in the second half, centre half Ashworth headed home with 16 minutes to keep the points in east London.
O's assistant manager Kevin Nugent said: "We started the game well and got the goal early, but then we sat back and could have been punished for it.
"But once Northampton equalised, we started to perform again and we showed good character to get back in front.
"There were lots of positives to take from the game and it's pleasing to get the win."
Orient didn't have to wait long to take the lead, with Boyd slotting home from inside the area after a good run by Loick Pires down the left in the fifth minute.
But the O's struggled to get going after that and Glenn Morris was tested by both Dyer and Liam Dolman.
Northampton continued to press after the break and they were rewarded on 65 minutes when Dyer sent a 20-yard shot arrowing into the top corner after Aleksandar Prijovic took the ball into the area and laid off for the midfielder.
Orient regrouped and took the lead for a second time nine minutes later when Ashworth's header from a Harry Baker corner looped into the net.
Trialist Ed Upson then went close after a mazy run, while Northampton's Joe Benjamin shot over, but Orient had done enough to claim victory.
