Blackburn Rovers U18 1 - 0 Leyton Orient U18
FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON Round Four
ORIENT'S FA Youth Cup run came to a battling end at Blackburn Rovers on Monday night.
The O's gave as good as they got against the Academy side, but a game of few chances was settled by Jason Banton's penalty 20 minutes from time.
Orient made a confident start and Joe Boakye's low shot was gathered by home keeper Josh Swann in the second minute.
Blackburn came close from a set piece in the 32nd minute when O's stopper Jack Giddens made a good reaction save to deny the Rovers man from close range.
At the other end Harry Beautyman's searching free kick eluded everyone in the middle and just dropped wide of the far post.
Louis Crowther then headed wide from a Moses Odubajo cross as Orient continued to make light of the gulf in status between the clubs.
The start of the second half was similarly tight and Beautyman went close again, curling a free kick just wide of Swann's post.
Midway through the half O's sub Chris Benjamin stepped inside Josh Morris and forced a good stop from Swann with his shot across the Rovers keeper.
But that was as good as it got for the away side, as with 20 minutes left to play, Manton got away from Josh Millwood in the left channel and was felled by Giddens as he bore down on goal.
A penalty was awarded and Manton dusted himself down to find the bottom corner with a confident penalty.
Michael Potts' free kick was saved by Giddens as Blackburn looked to consolidate their advantage and there was no way back for an O's side, who could nevertheless be pruod of their efforts.
