Mkandawire - I'm Doubly Happy
TAMIKA MKANDAWIRE had double the reason to celebrate after Orient's 2-0 victory over Yeovil on Tuesday night.
Not only did the O's keep a clean sheet in registering their first win in six, but defender Mkandawire set Orient on their way by notching his fifth goal of the season.
The former West Brom centre back's strike took him to second place in the O's goalscoring charts for the season and he was delighted with the three point haul.
"I'm doubly happy - you can't ask for anything more!" he said.
"The boys worked really hard last night, we worked hard for each other, kept doing the right things and made the right decisions.
"But on a personal level I'm delighted. I've equalled last season's goals tally already so hopefully I'll get a few more and go on and beat it now."
Tuesday night's outing was Orient's first match of 2010 following the recent cold snap and Mkandawire was pleased to start the New Year with a win.
"It's a great start to the year," he said. "Great to get out on the pitch again finally, and great to pick up the three points.
"It's been quite difficult over the last few weeks. We haven't been able to train properly because of the weather. That has been frustrating, but the break has also been good for us because it means we're well rested and I thought we looked very fresh against Yeovil."
Another pleasing aspect for the 26-year-old was Orient's ability to get over a nervy patch at the start of the second period to banish the memory of plenty of leads chucked away in recent weeks.
"Scoring early on gave us a boost of confidence I thought. We played well in spells throughout the game and when Scotty scored the second everyone knew we'd go on to win it," he added.
"There was a little spell when they had a bit of pressure and we were a little twitchy.
"I think that's to be expected when two teams both down there are playing, but we saw it out and went on to get the three points, so we're delighted."
