Demetriou - We Owe Them

Posted on: Mon 25 Jan 2010

JASON DEMETRIOU is on a mission to take three points away from The Valley following two near-misses against Charlton Athletic in recent years.

The 22-year-old midfielder was on the bench as Orient - then a League Two side with the Addicks in the top flight - lost out 2-1 in a tight FA Cup tie in 2006, and then he was a starter as the south Londoners defeated the O's by the same margin earlier this season.

And with Orient due to make the short trip over the River Thames this Monday, Demetriou is determined to build on Tuesday's win over Yeovil Town.

"We need to nick the three points back off them on Monday," he said. "We had a great game when we played them at home

"We competed well and we unlucky to come away with nothing.

"It was the same in that Cup game really - time flies so quickly. Back then we were fighting for promotion from League Two and they were in the Premier League.

"It was a brilliant day, even though the result went against us in the end - we were so unlucky not to get anything out of the game.

"We'd beaten Fulham in the previous round and were drawing against Charlton until the last minute."

Monday's game goes live to the nation on Sky Sports and Demetriou would love for the O's to put on a show.

"Monday is a massive game," he continued. "There will be a big audience watching on television, so it's a time for us to turn it on and show what we can do.

"We've got a good side here and hopefully we'll be getting the three points on Monday."

Going to The Valley on the back of a good team display against Yeovil, Demetriou is keen to make sure that was the starting point for an improved second half of the season.

He was also delighted to be back in the starting line-up and is now keen to kick on.

"A fresh start is how the gaffer put it. It's a new year and we've got to look at it as a new season almost," he added.

"We got off to a great start on Tuesday and now we need to keep it going.

"I was pleased to be back in the team for the Yeovil game. I've missed a bit of football recently, but that's how it goes and I was delighted to get back out there.

"I felt very good in myself and was glad to get an assist, but the boys were outstanding

"It was nice to see the three new boys prove they were excellent additions to the side too, so it was a good performance all round."
