Jarvis - They're Both Mine!

Posted on: Mon 01 Feb 2010

RYAN JARVIS says he will be claiming both goals from the O's 2-2 draw at Carlisle United on Saturday.

The 23-year-old striker played a major role in the Londoners' comeback at Brunton Park, smashing home from close range to make it 2-1 on the hour, and then seeing his header loop in off Carlisle defender Danny Livesey for the leveller.

That went down as an own goal to the Carlisle man, but Jarvis insisted it was his and he was delighted to help the O's earn their point.

"The second one's definitely mine as well," he said. "The header was on target, it's taken a deflection but I'll still be claiming it.

"For the first it was just a reaction - striker's instinct - and I've put my foot through it. I'm happy with the two goals."

Orient trailed 2-0 at the break and were well off the pace and Jarvis revealed that manager Geraint Williams had some harsh words for his team at the interval.

The visitors were much improved in the second half, scoring their two goals and then going close to a winner through Jonathan Téhoué and Nicky Adams, and in the end Jarvis felt they could have taken maximum points.

"We're a little disappointed not to have won the game after that second half," he continued. "We had so many chances, but overall it's probably a fair result considering how badly we played in the first half.

"We had a talking to at half time and everyone knew we had to put a performance in for the second half.

"I don't think it was complacency or anything like that in the first half, it just didn't happen for us.

"But after half time we started putting tackles in, getting in behind and playing better football. We deserved the point in the end.

"If we hadn't had such a sloppy first half we could easily have taken the three points, but coming back from two down shows how good the spirit is in the team."

The draw extended Orient's unbeaten start to 2010 and Jarvis says moving out of the drop zone has given the O's a lift.

He added: "It is a boost to get yourself out of the relegation zone. It gives you confidence - you take that out on the pitch and you feel that you can start winning games.

"We've done well in the last three games, but we're not getting carried away.

"Everyone's keeping their feet on the ground and working as hard as they can to get us up the table."
