Téhoué - It's Great To Get Off The Mark

Posted on: Thu 04 Feb 2010

THE biggest smile of the night following Tuesday's 5-0 win over Bristol Rovers could be found on Jonathan Téhoué's face after his 89th minute goal set the seal on a perfect evening for the Londoners.

The Frenchman stole in front of his marker to meet Sean Thornton's free kick and score his first goal in English football and he was delighted to get off the mark in such a magnifcent victory.

"I'm really happy," he beamed. "I've been waiting for that first goal so to score it in a 5-0 win is great.

"It was an excellent delivery in by Sean for the goal, I made my move just before the defender and got the strike in. Everyone's happy with the win and now we have to look forward to Saturday.

"I am a striker, so it is good for my confidence to score goals. Now I've got off the mark I can be more free in my mind and hopefully I can get better and better."

Téhoué has been restricted to substitute appearances in his brief O's career to date as he builds his match fitness.

A contract dispute with his previous club Konyaspor meant he had barely played any football in the year prior to joining the O's and he is desperate to make up for lost time.

"My fitness is getting better," he explained. "I'm still waiting for my first start, but that's not up to me - it's up to the gaffer.

"I have to keep on working hard and take my chances when they come along."

Téhoué's arrival has coincided with the team hitting form and he is thrilled to have got off to a successful start in O's colours.

"It's good to be winning games, and maybe I've brought the luck to the team!" he smiled.

"We haven't lost in 2010, so it's been going well and we have to keep it going.

"This run is a boost to our confidence. All of us know what we can do, so we just have to trust ourselves and I think we can improve further."
