GILLINGHAM ended their 10-match winless run on Saturday when leading scorer Simeon Jackson stepped off the substitutes bench and captured three much-needed points for the Kent side with a last-gasp winner to beat Bristol Rovers 1-0.
The win took Gillingham to within three points of the O's ahead of the clash at Priestfield on Tuesday night
Delighted Gills boss Mark Stimson said: "Defensively we've been outstanding at home this season but we haven't been scoring enough goals but I'll happily take a few more
1-0s until the end of the season."
The Gills boss is anxious to eradicate the memory of a 3-1 defeat at Brisbane Road back in December when his players experienced horrendous traffic conditions that caused many to arrive less than 45 minutes before kick-off, affecting the team's preparation.
"Yes it was an awful night, one to forget," Stimson admitted. "It was a disastrous night both in terms of the result and the sheer effort of trying to get to Leyton Orient."
He then added with a smile: "Let's hope Orient get stuck in traffic like we did, we'll try and get one of our players who won't be involved to get the QEII Bridge closed!
"Seriously, we have got to put all thoughts of that game at Orient out of our mind, focus on Tuesday's match and try and build on our good result from Saturday. We've taken four points out of six from our last two games and kept two clean sheets.
"At home, we fancy our chances against anyone because there is something about Priestfield that, when it gets rocking, it creates an intimidating atmosphere.
"The game with Orient is another big game but it's another chance to improve our position and a win would move us level with them. We are at the stage of the season where every point becomes vital."
