SWINDON TOWN have been scoring goals for fun in recent weeks but drew a blank at Brisbane Road. Orient captain Stephen Purches reckons the O's should be more frustrated about missing out on the win though. He spoke to leytonorient.com after the game.
Was that a fair result?
"Well I think we're a little disappointed that we didn't win. If you look at the chances, we had some very good ones and Jason (Demetriou) had quite a few himself. There was one that was nearly an own goal, and the one from Sean (Thornton) that was a last-ditch tackle. If you sit down and analyse the game, overall we came out probably more disappointed than they were. But we're pleased with the 90 minute performance, and on another day those chances would have gone in."
Swindon have been in great form recently - were you expecting more of an onslaught from them?
"That was full credit to us, we didn't allow them to do it. They're the in-form team in the league and we proved that we're more than a match. Jamie Jones made a great save at the end there but it was probably the only save he really had to make."
It was quite a scrappy game for long periods - was that due to the pitch?
"It's not good but everyone knows the situation before the game, so you've got to get your head round it. The lads did well, because we've had some boggy pitches in the last few weeks and it can take it out of your legs a bit."
The referee seemed to be getting stick from both sets of fans - what did you make of his performance?
"It was one of those games, it can get a bit frustrating and fans start getting on the ref's back, but that's the way it goes. I'm sure Swindon are disappointed that they didn't get the penalty at the end there but we got stuck with a dodgy one at their place so these things even themselves out."
A decent point then, but presumably we need to start turning them into all three?
"Of course, we're obviously aware of that. But if we carry on playing like this then I'm sure we'll start picking up wins."
