Téhoué - It Was A Great Way To Celebrate My New Contract

Posted on: Thu 18 Mar 2010

JONATHAN TÉHOUÉ says Saturday's 2-0 victory over Walsall was the perfect way to celebrate putting pen-to-paper on his new long-term deal with the O's.

25-year-old striker Téhoué has signed a new contract at Brisbane Road taking him up to the summer of 2012 and he is grateful to have been given the opportunity to get his career back on track.

He had spent over a year out of the game prior to his move to the O's, after a contract dispute with his previous club Konyaspor wrecked the end of his spell in Turkey.

But having earned his longer-term deal in E10, Téhoué is now determined to kick on and make a success of himself in England.

"Winning 2-0 on Saturday was a good way to celebrate my new contract," he said.

"I feel better now because having only signed until the end of the season initially, there was still the feeling that I was on trial.

"I feel like I've done quite well since I've been here. All the technical staff are happy with me and the work I've done, so it's great to sign that new contract.

"As everyone knows I didn't play football for more than a year before coming to Leyton Orient, so I had to start again from zero.

"My fitness is getting better week-on-week and hopefully I will be a different player next season with a full pre-season behind me."

Téhoué was delighted with the victory over the Saddlers and he was especially pleased with the number of chances created, particularly following the paucity of goalscoring opportunities in the previous two games.

"We created many chances against Walsall. I couldn't score unfortunately, but the most important thing is that the team won and everyone is happy with that," he continued.

"We're happy because we needed the points and beating Walsall will give us confidence.

"It was an enjoyable game to play in, because the previous two matches were really frustrating as a striker.

"We have to keep playing as we did  against Walsall, with good football. Keep on moving the ball, creating opportunities and hopefully we can get more points every week."

The O's take on Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and that is a a game the Frenchman is looking forward to with particular relish as he spent a period of time training with the Terriers last term.

Huddersfield boss Lee Clark was keen to sign Téhoué for the Yorkshiremen, but his ongoing dispute with Konyaspor scuppered that move and he wants to show Town what they missed out on.

"It will be a different game this weekend against Huddersfield, a tough one, but it's one we're all looking forward to," he added.

"I know almost everybody at Huddersfield after spending some time there last season. I know all the technical staff and some of the players as well.

"So I would like to do well on Saturday, that's for sure!"
