Cray Wanderers 0 - 2 Leyton Orient
Pre-Season Friendly
ORIENT returned to action on Wednesday evening with a 2-0 victory at Ryman Premier League side Cray Wanderers.
In a match arranged after the transfer of 18-year-old George Porter from Cray to the O's, it was fitting that the youngster had a hand in the opening goal, winning the penalty converted by Ben Chorley four minutes before the interval.
The O's were always in control of a low-key affair, and although they found genuine chances hard to come by, they notched a second goal near the end through Alex Revell on his first appearance in a red shirt.
Russell Slade took the opportunity to use 23 players over the 90 minutes, including four trialists, with former MK Dons and Stevenage midfielder Craig Dobson putting in a lively opening 45 minutes.
Other plus points were Porter's contribution against his former side and the authoritative displays of Aaron Brown and Terrell Forbes at the back as the east Londoners got their pre-season campaign off to a satisfactory start.
Orient made a bright start with Mike Cestor breezing clear down the left to send over a cross. The ball was only cleared as far as Dobson, whose 25-yard drive was deflected behind for a corner.
Dean Cox was always an option on the left hand side and his low cross almost picked out Porter in the 15th minute, but goalkeeper John Whitestone just beat him to the ball.
Cray only rarely threatened and Aaron Day had their only real effort of the first half, shooting wide on the turn after 32 minutes.
The breakthrough finally arrived four minutes before the interval when Cray's Alan McLeod was penalised for pulling Porter down in the box as Cox delivered a free kick.
A penalty was awarded and Chorley made no mistake from 12 yards, sending Whitestone the wrong way.
Slade completely rejigged his team after the interval, and Orient remained in control.
Their neat football on the long grass wasn't bringing the chances with it, although Revell did nod a fizzing Kenny Gillet - a trialist left back - cross over the top on 70.
Revell was able to go one better six minutes from time when he capitalised on an error from Tyrone Stirling to run clear on goal.
Goalkeeper Richard White got a touch on the summer signing's effort, but the ball trickled over the line to double the advantage.
At the other end Josh Millwood produced a great tackle late on to deny Danny Phillips and ensure Orient kept hold of the clean sheet they deserved.
