STEPHEN DAWSON has been named as the new Orient team captain ahead of Saturday's npower League 1 opener at Yeovil Town.
24-year-old midfielder Dawson, a summer signing from Bury, succeeds Stephen Purches in the role, who was released by the club at the end of last season.
The Irishman also held the armband at the Shakers and he was named in the PFA League 2 Team of the Year last season for his impressive performances in midfield.
He will be supported in the role by Ben Chorley, who takes the job of club captain, while Scott McGleish is the O's PFA rep.
O's boss Russell Slade believes he has a team of leaders at Brisbane Road, and that Dawson is the perfect figurehead.
"I can confirm that Stephen Dawson will be team captain for the season," he said.
"He brings a lot of things to the table - he has a lot of enthusiasm, he's a winner and I think he'll galvanise the side when it needs galvanising.
"But aside from Steve we have a few leaders in there too. Ben Chorley is another one, he will be club captain, and I have another senior player in Scotty McGleish. Those three will be very important to me."
