O's Coach In Masters Triumph

Posted on: Mon 06 Sep 2010

ORIENT goalkeeping coach Kevin Dearden rolled back the years to help Birmingham City lift the Masters Football title on Sunday night.

Dearden, who played 12 games for the Blues on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in 1992, saved two penalties in a final shootout with Tranmere Rovers following a 3-3 draw.

The Masters Cup is a six-a-side indoor football tournament open to current or former professional footballers over the age of 35 and features teams from across England and Scotland.

Birmingham and Aston Villa were given an automatic route through to the Grand Final night as home teams, and Dearden's side saw off Nottingham Forest and Barnsley before defeating Tranmere.

The triumphant Blues side featured another former O's player in the form of defender Jerry Gill, with Jeff Kenna, Martin O'Connor, Graham Hyde, Geoff Horsfield, Paul Devlin and Tommy Mooney making up the rest of their squad.
