Jason Demetriou |
Two penalties were enough to win the points for the young Os, who had to cope with the loss of Gabriel Zakuani and Brian Saah through first team commitments.
The opening goal came in the 37th minute when Jason Demetriou (pictured) was brought down inside the penalty area and Daniel Glozier converted from the spot.
And on 68 it was Tommy Laxton who was fouled in the box allowing Demetriou to slot home a penalty to make the points safe.
"We started very well and made it difficult for Portsmouth to get in to their rhythm, Inglethorpe said.
"After the break we continued in the same style and were unlucky with a few efforts until we got our second penalty.
"My thinking behind having a different taker was that their goalkeeper wouldn't be able to second guess where it was going to go, and I was confident that Jason would be able to take one as well as Daniel.
"To go to a Premiership side and win with a clean sheet is a great start and we showed we can play well without our two players in the first team squad.
"We were also without Scott Wallis who had a thigh injury and Shane Oakley, who has to have a heart operation soon.
"Shane hasn't been able to play in any matches for us yet but he's been very enthusiastic and supportive in training and he's great to have around.
"He has to have an important operation and of course we wish him well and the forecast is for it all to go well."
