ORIENT'S under-18s returned to the top of the Football League Youth Alliance South-East Conference with a 1-0 success at Wycombe Wanderers.

With Youth Development Officer Gary Karsa in charge of the side due to the absence of a regular youth team manager, Scott Wallis scored the game's only goal to make it five wins and two draws from nine games this season.

Wallis netted just before the hour mark, using his pace to beat a defender and flick the ball home after Prince Toku had headed a pass in to his path.

Orient had an early shout for a penalty rejected after Tommy Laxton went down inside the Wanderers' box, but managed to keep it tight for the rest of the game to record a clean sheet.

"Wycombe were a strong side but we did well and passed the ball around nicely, Karsa said.

"We've got lots of pace in the team and the boys are working hard for each other, trying to do the right things and playing the game in the proper way which is pleasing.

"It's a bit unsettling for them not having a regular coach since Alex Inglethorpe left but there's a great team spirit and they're getting results so obviously Martin Ling doesn't want to rush in to an appointment which may not be the right one.

"I enjoy the opportunity to coach the side, it's the second time I've done it, but it's not my main role at the club.

"This is a good club for any coach to come to and from the under-9s up they're playing the game the right way so it's all positive at the moment."
