Echanomi Makes Scoring Return

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004

ORIENT'S youth team warmed up for their midweek FA Youth Cup trip to AFC Bournemouth with a comprehensive win over Brentford on Saturday.

Against a side they had already lost to this season, the young O's ensured there would be no repeat as they outplayed the west Londonders on their way to a 3-0 success.

Despite a less than perfect pitch, the O's were always in control and took the lead through Tommy Laxton, who finished off a smart move from close range.

After the break a Jason Demetriou penalty doubled the advantage after Nuno Gourgel had been fouled in the box and sub Efe Echanomi (pictured), on his return from injury, grabbed the third to kill off the Bees.

"On a bumpy pitch the kids tried to play the game the right way which is to their credit, Youth Development Officer Gary Karsa said.

"Brentford grew frustrated and it was a fair scoreline which we deserved for our hard-work and efforts."

Orient have now won five games running - whilst goalkeeper Paul Jones has kept five successive clean sheets.

However, Jones, along with fellow third years Laxton, Greg Tiffin and Prince Toku is too old to play in the FA Youth Cup second round match at Bournemouth on Wednesday so schoolboys Alan Matthews (right-back), Raphael Sylvester (striker) and goalkeepers Clark Johnson and Easton Davis have been drafted in to the squad.

First year midfielder Shane Oakley is also in the squad for the first time this season after a summer heart operation, whilst Brian Saah and Derek Duncan, who have played for the first team in recent weeks, are also involved.

"The squad is in great spirits and we're looking forward to it, Karsa added. "We know Bournemouth are good, but we're doing well too and we're up for it."

Orient: Paul Jones; Greg Tiffin, Bryan Glover, Daniel Glozier, Aiden Palmer; Jason Demetriou, Tom Ziepe, Tommy Laxton, Prince Toku; Nuno Gourgel, Scott Wallis.
Sub: Efe Echanomi for Gourgel (60).
