"We Stood Up And Were Counted"

Posted on: Tue 25 Apr 2006

ADAM TANN moved across from his more accustomed centre-half role to slot in at right-back for Orient's 1-1 draw at Lincoln, but the January transfer window signing turned in his best performance since joining the O's and helped the backline continue in their rich vein of form.

Tann was able to showcase his attacking abilities from the full back position and he whipped in a number of dangerous crosses during a fruitful first half.

But the Red Imps also tested his - and his fellow defenders' - mettle with their physical approach to the contest and the 23-year-old defender was happy with his contribution to the cause.

"I thought I did pretty well - I got forward quite well in the first half and got a few balls in the box," he said. "It was a little different in the second half as we were up against it a little bit more and I couldn't get down the flank as much.

"We haven't had good starts of late so it was fantastic for us to score so early. It was just a shame that we couldn't get a second because that would have totally changed the game.

"Lincoln are renowned for their style and it's definitely hard to play against. I think we stood up, made ourselves counted and tried to play good football as we always do - at times it was good football and at times it was a case of digging deep and grinding out the result.

"I don't think our keeper had a save to make in the second half but it was a shame that we couldn't create a few more chances because if we had we may have nicked all three points."

Had it not been for referee Trevor Parkes' inability to spot a clear foul on John Mackie in the build up to Lincoln's equaliser, Tann may have been celebrating a fourth straight clean sheet, but despite his clear frustration at the official's shortcomings, he was quick to shift the focus to Orient's final two games of the season.

"We're bitterly disappointed with their goal because we believe that it was a foul," he continued.  "I don't want to say too much about the ref but he wasn't up to scratch throughout the whole game and it was a definite foul on John.

"It's got to be a maximum six points from six to get us up now but we're still positive and we need to be because we know it's going to go down to the last game of the season.

"It's a little bit disappointing and it will be in the back of our minds on the journey home that we have slipped up but there's only one point in it and it's certainly going to be exciting for the fans if a little nervy, too."
