Leyton Orient 3 - 0 Northampton Town
Pontin's Holidays Combination East Division
ORIENT'S reserves maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Northampton Town on Tuesday.
Assistant manager Dean Smith had an extremely strong side - including 10 professionals - at his disposal, and Orient made their greater experience count by overpowering the Cobblers on their way to victory.
Raphael Sylvester and Joe Keith scored before half-time, while Gary Alexander struck after the break to seal the points for the Londoners.
Orient started impressively and it wasn't long until they took the lead, Sylvester meeting Donny Barnard's cross in the eighth minute with a fine downward header that gave visiting keeper Chris Dunn no chance.
Ten minutes later Demetriou ran in behind Northampton's defence and collected Aiden Palmer's excellent ball forward, but he couldn't provide the goal the move deserved, poking his effort off target.
Demetriou was involved in much of Orient's attacking play, and when his surging run was halted illegally by Ohran Stewart four minutes later, Keith stepped up to score from the free-kick.
The O's were well in control with Alexander and Sylvester posing the visitors' defence all sorts of problems, but a flowing attack on 35 almost brought them back into the contest, but Glenn Morris dived to his left to save Stewart's effort.
Orient resumed their dominance in the second half, and Alexander was rewarded for his perserverence after 54 minutes when Demetriou twisted his way to the by-line and passed square under pressure for the striker to tap home at the far post.
Daryl McMahon, also impressive in the middle of the park, later had a vicious long range effort tipped over by Dunn, and although Northampton recovered to exert a little late pressure, Orient's victory was fully deserved.
