Orient moved to rescue highly-rated striker Adam Boyd from a nightmare year at Luton after he had his Hatters contract cancelled by mutual consent in July 2007.

Boyd, who possesses a deadly reputation at League One level following his goalscoring exploits for Hartlepool, failed to hit the heights after his £500,000 move to Kenilworth Road in the summer of 2006 but he will be hoping for a change of luck in E10.

He wasted little time in showing O's fans his talents, scoring a spectacular dipping volley against West Ham in his first match in Orient colours, and then following it up with another friendly goal against Tottenham a week later.

Boyd began his career with hometown club Hartlepool United, where he made 144 league appearances (55 as a substitute) and scored 53 goals.

He shot to prominence with 29 goals in the 2004/05 season and left for Championship football at Luton a year later.

However, Boyd found starting opportunities at a premium at Kenilworth Road and he will be looking for a change of luck in E10.
