O's Suffer Cup Setback
Leyton Orient 0 - 2 Gillingham
Puma Youth Alliance Cup Group 2
ORIENT paid the price for a slow start as they fell to their first Youth Alliance Cup defeat to Gillingham last Saturday.
It wasn't until they had gone 2-0 down that the O's started to fire and Youth Team manager Kevin Nugent was disappointed that his side couldn't build on their two-game winning streak.
He said: "It's a good learning curve for the lads but it's disappointing that one poor 45-minute spell has meant that our winning run came to an end.
"We didn't get going until the second half, but then we had a goal disallowed that shouldn't have been and we showed signs of getting back into it.
"Another positive was that we had two under-16s in the side who did well, and it's a sign that we have good players coming through."
Orient were made to pay for their early sluggishness when Rory Hill gave the home side with a long-range drive.
The home side were guilty of overplaying on a pitch that wasn't conducive to neat football and an unfortunate own goal from Tom Kemp doubled Gillingham's lead.
Orient improved after the break, but they had given themselves too much to do and they slip to fourth in the group table.
Orient: Michael Doyle; Matthew Hall, Frankie Webb, Tom Kemp, Matthew Hall; Harry Baker, Scott Grange, Jack Page, Bradley Gray; Adam Marsh (Adam Bolle), Henry Atu (Harry Beautyman)
