Dramatic Cup Win For Young O's

Wycombe Wanderers 1 - 2 Leyton Orient
FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON Round Two

ELLIOTT BABBS' late, late goal booked Orient's place in the third round of the FA Youth Cup after they overcame the challenge of Wycombe Wanderers at a freezing Adams Park on Tuesday night.

A tight affair looked set for extra time when the visitors' Daryl Sydes cancelled out Jason Lumsden's goal but defender Babbs intervened to set up that third round tie against Watford.

Orient started well and created an early chance, but Wycombe keeper James Reading was equal to Adam Bolle's effort.

The home side's Tom O'Regan had a free kick deflected wide after eight minutes, but it was Orient who enjoyed the better of proceedings before the break and they created the best three chances of the opening period.

With 23 minutes on the clock, Bolle shot weakly at Reading after being played in and then, five minutes later, Harry Baker shot wide at the far post.

The best opening, however, fell to Adam Marsh, but he couldn't hit the target when only faced by keeper Reading four minutes before the interval.

Wycombe took advantage by beginning the second half strongly and moving into the lead.

Less than a minute had been played after the restart when Lumsden coolly finished from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later Orient keeper Jack Giddens touched Sam Belcher's long-range effort on to the crossbar and that intervention proved to be vital.

They didn't have to wait long for their equaliser, with Sydes drilling a super angled shot across Reading and into the far corner after finding space in the box on 54.

An even second period ensued, but Orient created the clearer chances and Baker was denied by a good Reading save as time ticked down.

But with extra time looming, Baker swung over a corner which Wycombe could not clear and Babbs pounced to finish from close range and give the O's a hard fought victory.
