Youths Are Too Sharp For Diamonds
Rushden & Diamonds 1 - 2 Leyton Orient
Puma Youth Alliance South East Conference
ORIENT'S youth team fought back from a goal down to beat Rushden & Diamonds 2-1 on Saturday.
Wayne Burnett's side fell behind early in the second half, but they maintained their composure to hit back and seal the points with goals from Jake Argent and Josh Millwood.
Youth team manager Burnett said: "We dominated the second half and it turned out to be a deserved win from a tight contest.
"It was a hardworking performance and we were pleased to get the win."
Neither side made much of an impression during an even first period in which both goalkeepers were largely untroubled.
But Orient let their concentration slip at the start of the second half and were punished when Rushden took advantage of a free kick in a wide position to establish a lead.
The O's failed to clear the home side's delivery and the ball was smashed back into their net with a stunning volley from outside the box.
Orient responded terrifically, though, and were level when Argent finished following a fine pass by Harry Beautyman.
With seven minutes remaining, the away side struck the decisive blow when Millwood found the net following a corner.
Orient: Daniel Bygrave; Brandon Martin, Josh Millwood, Stephen O'Hara, Alan Mabuyaku; Joe Boakye, Daryl Sydes, Matthew Hall, Michael Richardson (Harry Beautyman); Adam Marsh (Jake Argent), Adam Bolle (Louis Crowther)
