Ebbsfleet United 1 – 0 Leyton Orient
ORIENT were beaten 1-0 by Ebbsfleet United in their latest pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Nathan Elder scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half to give the non-leaguers the spoils.
O’s boss Russell Slade used the opportunity to give certain members of his squad more game time, with Dean Cox, Mathieu Baudry, Anthony Griffith and Jimmy Smith featuring for an hour, while there was a first appearance in O’s colours for Nathan Clarke.
Clarke lined up alongside Scott Cuthbert at the back and the pair, with Baudry playing as a defensive midfielder, looked solid.
Orient’s best opportunities before the break fell to Kevin Lisbie, who drew a save from Preston Edwards with a diving header and rolled a shot wide after being fed by Griffith.
Ebbsfleet’s chances at the other end were limited, although Smith did need to block a goalbound header from Elder.
Orient again employed a more youthful side after the break as Slade gave a run out to 22 players.
It was Ebbsfleet who grabbed the winning goal on 67 minutes when Elder got the better of second year scholar Sean Grace to chase down a long ball and beat Ryan Allsop.
Affy Obafemi should have levelled almost immediately when he made use of a misjudgment from home defender Paul Lorraine to collect Allsop’s kick, but with just Edwards to beat he blazed over.
That proved to be the O’s best chance as Blue Square Bet Premier side Ebbsfleet saw out time to claim the win.
