Leyton Orient 2 – 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers XI
O’S STRIKERS Kevin Lisbie and Ryan Brunt were on target as the east Londoners beat a Wolverhampton Wanderers XI in a behind closed doors pre-season friendly on Wednesday.
Lisbie and Brunt struck either side of the break to give the east Londoners a comfortable win in a match played at their training camp at the Champneys Springs resort in Leicestershire.
It marked another step forward for Russell Slade’s men as they kept their first clean sheet of pre-season in their third friendly.
Jimmy Smith went close to an opener on 14 minutes, but his clipped effort from range drifted over after the Wolves keeper came out to clear the ball away from Lisbie.
Then Symes was denied by the opposition glovesman after a fine Lloyd James diagonal ball picked him out.
The O’s didn’t have to wait long for their opener though as Dean Cox delivered a 34th minute corner from the left and Lisbie was there to head home.
Orient brought on David Mooney at the break for his first action of pre-season, as the Irishman replaced Symes, who was also featuring for the first time.
Slade’s men continued to boss proceedings against a young Wolves side and Moses Odubajo wasn’t far away with a shot that whistled just over.
Brunt had a header cleared off the line as Wolves kept themselves in it, but their challenge was finally killed off five minutes from time when Billy Lobjoit won possession in midfield, drove towards the box and fed Brunt, who smashed home by the near post.
It was a satisfactory workout for the O’s as they continue the countdown to the new campaign.
