RUSSELL SLADE says his team’s match sharpness will return over the final couple of weeks of pre-season as the countdown to the opening game at Charlton in the Capital One Cup begins.
The O’s were beaten 1-0 by Dartford on Saturday but again manager Slade was less interested in the result than the workout it gave the east Londoners.
He explained: “We’re only going into the sharp work over the next two weeks or so.
“We’ve got the base fitness now which is good, and I feel that we’ve finished all of our games strongly.
“I just think that we need to get that sharpness now which will give us that extra five percent on a Saturday or Tuesday.
“I keep telling you it’s not about the result and it was just as much not about the result when we beat Wolves 2-0.
“Players have got minutes under their belt again. We were average in the first half and we didn’t pass the ball particularly well.
“In the second half I thought we dominated most of the game and should have got ourselves a couple of goals.
“We need to get our shooting boots on for sure but I was much more pleased with the second half performance.”
